About Us
We are a practice of five partners, four salaried GPs, and a GP Registrar in training.
In addition, we have many other practitioners working from the surgery: Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacist, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Midwives, and a Drugs and Alcohol therapist. District Nurses and Health Visitors are located in a neighbouring building but work in close partnership.
Our practice area covers the eastern part of the city and surrounding area and includes Cowley, Headington, Littlemore, Rose Hill and Blackbird Leys.
A wide range of social and ethnic groups are represented. Translators can be booked for most languages.
Approximately half our patients are students at Brookes University and consult with us at the Medical Centre on the Gipsy Lane campus.
St Bartholomew & Hollow Way Medical Practice
In 1990, St Bartholomew & Hollow Way Medical Practice was planned by the partners, to provide a high standard of accommodation for a six-doctor practice with all the ancillary services and personnel which are essential for modern general practice.
Since the practice came to St Bartholomew & Hollow Way Medical Practice, change has been continuous. Dr. Bull and Dr. Taylor both retired and were replaced by Dr. Ann Bevan and Dr. Alison Fairley. Dr. Marsden resigned in 1999 and has been replaced by Dr. Hanif Rahim
Over the years the practice has grown, partners and staff have come and gone and extensions were added in 1993 and 2010. We now have in excess of 20,000 patients. We run the medical centre at Oxford Brookes University and in 2019 we took over the running of the Lake Street practice. Our team has grown in parallel, and we now have 5 partners: Dr Fairley, Dr Rahim, Dr Gould, Dr Hasan and Dr Doan, a large experienced salaried doctor team, wonderful nursing, management and admin teams and much valued allied health professionals which include a pharmacist and a paramedic.
We are a member of the East Oxford Primary Care Network (PCN) which has allowed us to work collaboratively with our neighbouring practices and has provided us with additional staff which include a physio, physicians associates, mental health workers. These roles are evolving and expanding with time.
St Bartholomew & Hollow Way Medical Practice places an emphasis on training and education. There are usually several students on site which include medical, nursing, midwifery, and pharmacy students. We also have GP trainees who are fully qualified doctors in their last year or so of training to become a GP.
We are delighted to have an active patient participation group and are very thankful for the support and ideas that they provide.
Over the years we have changed radically from the practice started by Dr Neill and Dr Bull in a house on the Iffley Road but we still endeavour to provide high quality patient care and support a happy well-functioning team.
